Cognitive Assessments

Cognitive Assessments:

What is a Cognitive Assessment?

A cognitive assessment helps us understand how you or your child processes and attends to information. Some individuals respond best to visual information, while others benefit from verbal prompting. Some grasp cause and effect naturally, whereas others may process information at a different pace than their peers. There is no right or wrong way to process information—however, understanding these differences is crucial for optimising learning and daily functioning.

How is the Assessment Conducted?

Depending on age, we administer one of the following standardised cognitive assessments:

  • WPPSI-IV (Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence – Fourth Edition) – for young children

  • WISC-V (Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children – Fifth Edition) – for school-aged children

  • WAIS-IV (Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale – Fourth Edition) – for adults

  • UNIT-II (Universal Nonverbal Intelligence Test – Second Edition) – for individuals who are non-verbal or have severe receptive and expressive language delays

Additionally, an assessment of adaptive functioning is conducted to understand how cognitive abilities impact everyday life.

Who is this Assessment For?

A cognitive assessment may be beneficial if you or your child:

  • Has been diagnosed with a Global Developmental Delay

  • Is behind peers in multiple areas such as schooling, self-care, or social skills

  • Struggles with grasping or retaining learning concepts

  • Faces challenges with self-care tasks

  • Requires confirmation for Disability Support Pension eligibility

  • Needs confirmation to support school applications

What You’ll Receive:

After the assessment, we provide a comprehensive report with detailed insights and practical recommendations. These findings help in understanding how you or your child best receive and retain information, supporting both learning and daily life adjustments.
